Rookie Mistake

When you decide to “get out of your comfort zone” by choosing a different spot in yoga and then you realize it’s directly underneath the heater and slowly start to die from the inside out.

Alan Rickman

I am simultaneously all three of these emotions:

From Sense and Sensibility to Robin Hood to HP, Alan Rickman I loved in you them all.  Idk how this man never got nominated for an oscar. I call shananigans. Who else could make you love a character who in the book is a straight up psychopath and you’re like wtf dumbles how could you let this man near children?????! Enter one beautiful Alan Rickman. Game changer.

Can we all take a moment to remember how JK Rowling told him a secret about Snape’s character that he never  revealed?! I always said if anything were to happen I would want him as my secret keeper bc he fo’ sho’ knows how to keep one!

Our main man was also an advocate for the HP books:

“The books are so full of all you need to know and so full of details,” Rickman says. “That’s why when I meet children and I ask, ‘Have you read the books?’ And they say, ‘No, no, we just them on TV.’ Then I say, ‘Well, you’ve got to start reading the books.’  And, of course, many of them do and become hooked in a very different way.”
Guys! And!! he went and saw Daniel Radcliffe twice in his run for “How to Succeed in Business..” play. the sweetest.

Book Review: The Martian

Yall I did not want to read this. Mostly because I kept seeing Matt Damon’s mug everywhere. Yes I love Matt Damon too but seriously I can’t take this seriously:

The movie looked silly and I thought the book couldn’t be much better. That is until I read this review and my mind did a 180.

The Martian by Andy Weir centers around Mark Watney who is accidentally (serious bad luck man) left on Mars after his crew thinks he is dead. He needs to survive on the planet with limited resources for 4 years until the next mission. Question is, how? For Mark Watney the answer is clear: potatoes.  Guys, without Watney’s crazy thoughts/inner dialouge this book (and I assume movie) would be nothing.  Some might ask why is this dude cracking all these jokes when he’s going to die fo’ sho? Wouldn’t you? I could only hope I was as funny as this guy when I’m stranded on an alien planet!

Favorite Quotes from my main man Mark:

“Fear my botany powers!”

“Godspeed, little taters.”

The Martian is a surprisingly quick read! I became so invested in the main character I didn’t mind all the sciencey talk. I would have loved a longer ending but I get that it’s just not the style the book was about and you got to stick to what is true to the book. The Martian is hilarious! I definitely recommend, especially if you plan to watch the movie!!

David Bowie, badass bro

My love for David Bowie goes back a ways from growing up watching the best/weirdest movie, Labyrinth.  So many questions. Why did he decide to make this movie where he is only working with puppets? Why the hair? Why the spandex and enhanced package when it’s a children’s movie? Does Jennifer Connelly have the best brows of all time? Why is all the music so good?!

Questions that will never have answers.

I love how he got to fulfill his life long ambition of creating a (mostly) successful musical and dropped another album out of nowhere on Friday.  Whaaat he is the most mysterious and I love it.  I still remember going into Whole Foods and seeing The Next Day at the check out counter and had no idea what was happening (obvs buying it immediately). He is everything. May we all be a little more Ziggy and a whole lot more mysterious, minus the feathered hair please :)

Still confused (for life) about the (illegal) love story line between Sarah and the Goblin King but then again…

Farewell you strange, strange, beautiful man. Goblin King 4ever <3

New Year, New Words

A few years ago my friend introduced me to her family’s New Year tradition, pick a word you want to embody for year. I swear it was an Aha! moment for me. Something so small and so genius! Obviously I had to try it.

I’m cheating and using two words that came to mind: present and badass.

I want to be present for myself and the people in my life (and hopefully a by product of this means staying calm in all situations, fingers crossed!) AND I feel this is the Year of Saryah, doing me and living wholeheartedly. 2016, let’s do this

Happy Holidays my blog family!

How was your Christmas? Houston was unusually hot this year at 82 degrees, I’ve been sleeping with the fan on all week. We celebrated with way too many tamales and Santa’s questionable presents.

Every Christmas my work does a wreath auction to raise money for charity (sometimes with holiday vacations included) and I love walking down the hall to see what people made. Last year there was 11 Frozen themed wreaths. Seriously. (This year only two, thank goodness)

Here were my two favs!

IMG_6667IMG_6656This year over $23,000 was raised!! Proud mama moment :)

And now for the Christmas highlights…IMG_6771My favorite present I got! My cousin gets me :)

My mom/Santa got me a paint by numbers as requested, and decided to go in an interesting direction of wild horses..?

I wore this outfit to every holiday party #gonnagetmymoneysworthMy oldest sister got engaged! She’s too cool for school and announced it via emojis like a boss.

Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal ;)
